Hailiang’s Revisions! Another National Standard in the Industry Released!
2023-09-08

In response to the national “carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals” and the promotion of green and low-carbon development principles, Hailiang took the initiative in 2008 to formulate the standard The Norm of Energy Consumption Per Unit Product of Copper and Copper-Alloy Tube (GB 21350-2008), pioneering the establishment of energy consumption standards for the nonferrous industry.

Following its implementation, this standard was revised in 2013, which facilitated the rapid development of energy-saving technologies in the nonferrous industry.

Supported by The Norm of Energy Consumption Per Unit Product of Copper and Copper-Alloy Tube (GB 21350-2008 (2013)), subsequent standards were released and implemented, including The Norm of Energy Consumption Per Unit Product of Copper and Copper-Alloy sheet, Strip, and Foil (GB 29442-2012), The Norm of Energy Consumption Per Unit Product of Copper and Copper-Alloy Rod and bar (GB 29443-2012), The Norm of Energy Consumption Per Unit Product of Copper and Copper-Alloy Wire (GB 29137-2012), and The Norm of Energy Consumption Per Unit Product of copper drawing stock for electrical purpose (GB 32046-2015).

On January 14, 2017, the Office of the Inter-Ministerial Joint Meeting of the State Council for Standardization Coordination issued a notice (Comprehensive Letter of the Standardization Administration [2017] No. 4) regarding the integration and streamlining of mandatory standards. This notice required the integration of the 5 energy consumption standards related to copper processing materials mentioned before.

Following the requirements of the Standardization Administration, the Energy Fundamentals and Management, and the Nonferrous Metals, Hailiang, along with 16 other enterprises, began the process of integrating and revising these 5 standards in 2021. This process involved more than 10 discussion and review meetings over a period of approximately 2 years. The revised standard, The Norm of Energy Consumption Per Unit Product of Wrought Copper and Copper Alloy was approved in December 2022 and officially released in May 2023.

Most of the standards became stricter in this revision, making them to an internationally advanced level. The standard will be implemented on June 1, 2024.

To promote energy-saving technology research and development and ensure compliance with production standards for all copper processing material manufacturers, the Standardization Administration organized a promotional meeting for The Norm of Energy Consumption Per Unit Product of Wrought Copper and Copper Alloy (GB 21350-2023) in Guiyang, Guizhou Province from August 21 to 23, 2023.

Low-carbon intelligent production line of Hailiang

In recent years, Hailiang has been dedicated to the research and application of energy-saving, environment-friendly, and intelligent technologies, processes, and equipment.

In the context of the implementation of this mandatory national standard, Hailiang’s Research Institute plays a pivotal role. On the one hand, it guides various production bases to standardize energy management, optimize the energy consumption structure, and enhance energy utilization efficiency. On the other hand, it collaborates with production bases to enhance research and application of energy-saving, intelligent technologies, processes, and equipment. This effort is aimed at elevating the company’s energy-saving technology level, enabling the company to advance continuously on the path of environment-friendly and intelligent operations.
